Not-Established

Post-Industrial Design asserts its agency by identifying novel fields of action, addressing socio-economic and environmental imperatives through both discourse and prototyping. In this context, the conference Not - Established facilitates a critical interrogation of the "post-industrial" concept, examining narratives that extend beyond the definitions of the information or service society. By analyzing the "4th industrial revolution" alongside evolving democratic requirements, the gathering explores the inherent "designability" of these shifts and cultivates a distinct understanding of such transformational processes.

Challenge

Institutional exhibitions often privilege the finished artifact, obscuring the chaotic, generative processes inherent to design education. The task involves rendering the discursive and social aspects of the "school" visible to a broader public, moving beyond static display.

Proposition

Stage the festival as a durational event that emphasizes the performative nature of design research. Spanning three days of workshops, alumni discourse, and live interventions, the format foregrounds the network of actors – students, alumni, and guests – as the primary medium. This approach transforms the exhibition space into a site of active knowledge production and communal reflection, collecting the disparate energies of the semester into a coherent, yet open-ended narrative.
