Bank to the Future
Kunstkonto is research- and design-driven project that explores new financial infrastructures for the arts. Through strategic consulting and conceptual development, it investigates how economic instruments, banking logics, and funding mechanisms can be reconfigured to place financial agency directly in the hands of artists. The project challenges conventional patronage models by positioning artistic practice as an active economic actor within a self-determined and sustainable cultural ecosystem.
Project Info
Conceptualisation, consulting, and foundation establishment for an innovative art funding model.
Challenge
Conventional art funding models often separate artistic practice from financial agency, reinforcing structural precarity and dependency on short-term grants or patronage. Artists are positioned as beneficiaries rather than economic actors, with limited access to financial instruments that could support long-term stability, autonomy, and strategic growth.
Proposition
Conceive and advise on the establishment of a new foundation that rethinks art funding at the level of financial infrastructure. Central to the project is the development of an “art bank account” model in collaboration with a financial institution: a dedicated financial framework that connects artistic practice with banking and economic instruments tailored to the realities of cultural production. Through strategic consulting, the initiative translates artistic value into financial structures that place funding, liquidity, and decision-making power directly in the hands of artists. By aligning foundation-based funding with innovative banking tools, the project proposes an alternative ecosystem in which artists gain financial empowerment without sacrificing critical or aesthetic autonomy. The result is a scalable model that challenges traditional patronage systems and positions art as an active, self-determined participant within the broader economy.
