How will we live and sustain ourselves together? Echoing Roberto Esposito’s analysis of communitas, this project with Hyperwerk understands community not as a romanticized ideal, but as a system of mutual obligation where the individual engages in the "gift" and shared disposition. We investigate the practical mechanics of community – specifically the stewardship of commons, the dynamics of exchange, and the architecture of shared responsibility.

Challenge

In an era of fluid digital networks and shifting economic structures, traditional concepts of community dissolve. There is an urgent need to understand how civil society reconfigures itself locally and globally to address gaps left by the state and economy.

Proposition

Investigate community as a dynamic, designable process through the annual theme "Jetzt Gemeinschaft." The project initiates pilot interventions that utilize low-threshold, sustainable approaches to disrupt existing structures. By focusing on the "Commons" and new forms of labor organization, the research frames community building as an active, creative practice – harnessing rituals and digital connectivity to define a contemporary social cohesion.
